ADVANCED PLACEMENT US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS (Grade 12)

The course is designed to give students an analytical perspective on government and politics in the United States. The course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret American politics and the analysis of specific examples. It will focus on the various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that constitute U.S. politics. The major units of the course include Constitutional underpinnings of the United States Government, political beliefs and behaviors, political parties and interest groups, institutions and policy processes of the national government, and civil rights and civil liberties in America. Additionally, the course will explore the dynamics of both fiscal and monetary policy to include such topics as production, employment, business cycles, inflation, taxation, government spending, interest rates, and the workings of the Federal Reserve.
