AP English Language and Composition is a college level course focusing on the close study of language, rhetoric, and analysis. The curriculum uses primarily non-fiction texts from a diverse variety of periods, along with a variety of essays, articles, and current events, to help students understand the complex relationship between writer, subject, and audience. Students will be tasked with researching in-depth, mature topics (such as politics) and synthesizing large chunks of information. Because the expectations of this course match those of a first-year college course, students must be highly motivated, independent learners who can handle heavy amounts of reading and writing. Additionally, the course assumes students have sharp control of written stylistic conventions and usage. Prerequisite: Honors English 3 and teacher recommendation. Please review the AP Section in the tab entitled "Course Levels and Prerequisites" before selecting this course. Summer assignments are required.
