Plymouth Whitemarsh High School PTSO Meeting Minutes – May 1, 2024

 In attendance:  Dr. Bacani, Principal; Mr. Young, Teacher; Carrie Dobrowolski, Diana Rickert, Kajol Taneja, Ellen Glendinning. Student representative Sachita U.

Principal’s Report:  Dr. Bacani

·         Thank you to the Plymouth Whitemarsh PTSO for the donation toward the mural created by former PW student and graphic designer, Phoebe Cornog.  The mural is on the wall facing the cafeteria, and she engaged several PW art students in its creation.  Phoebe did a timelapse video of the process that we look forward to sharing.

·         There’s a lot of testing going on in the coming weeks, and the students are busy.

·         Counseling is currently building out students’ schedules for next year.

·         We have six staff members retiring. These candidates will be presented once the board has reviewed them.

 

Students’ Report: Sachita U. 

·         PW’s Odyssey of the Mind team placed 2nd at its State competition, and they will now advance to the World’s Competition in May.  Congratulations and Good Luck!

·         PW’s MiniThon event is happening today (5/1).  This event raises thousands of dollars to fight childhood cancer.  Have fun to everyone attending!

·         The PW Chorus performed their Spring Concert on April 9th; the PW Orchestra played their Spring Concert on April 16th; the PW Band performed their Spring Concert on April 23rd.

·         Last Friday, PW held the Distinguished Graduates Organization ceremony. There were three distinguished alumni that were honored:  Mrs. Sue Moore, president of the CSD School Board, was honored for her service of 22 years; Mr. Dean Eisenberger was honored for his service to CSD and the community in his role with the Plymouth Police Department; Mr. Brian Rosenfeld was recognized for his contributions toward film and media through his work for NFL Films which earned him seven Emmy’s.

 

Teacher’s Report:  Mr. Young

·         Thanks to the PW PTSO for their continued support of the Rich Coletta Sr. Scholarship.

·         Writing Center / Mr. Weiner:  The Writing Center is available during Bonus Blocks and lunch to assist students with writing assignments and/or presentatios. Students may make appointments at: https://pwhs.mywconline.com/

·         College Counseling Office / Mrs. Lynch

o   We are asking Seniors to share their college scholarship information (copies of letters or screenshots of emails/portals) with Mrs. Marsico, College Counseling Secretary. This information can be emailed to kmarsico@colonialsd.org or dropped off to Guidance in person.

o   The Main Line College Fair at Villanova University will take place Wednesday May 22 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. All students and families are welcome to attend! There is no charge, but please be sure to register in advance for a barcode at www.StriveFair.com

o   PSAT registration for rising 10th graders (Class of 2027) will be shared with families in the coming weeks.  Please keep an eye out in the mail and in Blackboard messaging.

PTSO Business

·         Thank you to everyone who supported the Hershey Park fundraiser. We netted a $450 profit which will help fund PTSO-sponsored events and support

·         Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  We will be holding a PW Teacher Appreciation Day on Weds 5/8; PTSO will provide breakfast items to teachers and staff as a Thank You

·         Yard Sign sales (for Senior families) will fund the Senior Picnic. All signs must be paid for prior to our placing the order (no extra signs will be available afterward).  Deadline to order is 5/4/24 at a cost of $20 each. Cash or checks made payable to “PW PTSO” must be received by the school by 5/4 (PWHS, Attn: PTSO, 201 E. Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462 or simply drop off at the main office).

·         Senior Picnic: 6/11/24 – PTSO will provide sandwiches, Kona Ice, senior bags, chips, snacks, waters, tomato pies for 351 PW Graduates

·         The PWHS PTSO is proud to sponsor many activities such as: class events, scholarships, Sunshine Fund (for occasional student-needs), teacher/staff appreciation days, and items requested for the school. We also provide volunteer support for events like Homecoming, Powder Puff Football, Senior Picnic, and more.
