PWHS students donate artwork through Woodmere Art Museum's KIDS CARE exhibition

Digital artwork from 17 Plymouth Whitemarsh High School photography students is currently on display at Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill—before the pieces make their way to people in need during the winter holidays.

Through Woodmere’s annual exhibition, KIDS CARE, hundreds of students across the Philadelphia region create art as holiday gifts for people battling serious illnesses. After the exhibition closes, hundreds of pieces of original art will be wrapped and delivered by MANNA (the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) along with a holiday meal to bring encouragement and a sense of community to each recipient.

This year’s theme, "Musical Storytelling in Art," draws inspiration from the watercolors of award-winning illustrator, Jerry Pinkney, and his musical storytelling art that is featured in Woodmere’s exhibition, Soul, Sound and Voice.

In class, the students worked to research and create inspiring photographs that combined positive imagery with uplifting song lyrics.

PWHS senior Gabi Tiedeken’s piece featured a photo of a boy having fun swimming in the pool while using earbuds to listen to a song on an ipod. “I wanted to show the idea that music can be used to empower people to stay determined, whether it's for an activity like swimming or to get through more difficult hardships,” she said.
