Colonial's school libraries benefit from Subaru Loves Learning
Colonial School District students in grades K-8 will have access to approximately 250 new science-focused books, thanks to a donation from the Subaru Loves Learning program.
Some of the books will support classroom instruction and others will circulate through libraries. For the past six years, Colonial School District volunteer and Colonial School District Education Foundation (CSDEF) Board Member Linda Doll has served as a judge for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. After judging the books, she has donated them to the District. Colonial has received over 1,000 science books through the program.
This year’s donations include picture books about cells, as well as others that convey important information about topics such as climate change, outer space, the human body, and more.
The AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books celebrates outstanding science writing and illustration for children and young adults. AAAS believes that, through good science books, this generation, and the next, will have a better understanding and appreciation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The AAAS creates the blueprint for science education in the United States and influenced the Next Generation Science standards used nationally and in the Colonial School District.
