Plymouth Whitemarsh High School is committed to creating a positive and safe environment for all spectators and athletes at sporting contests. Promoting good behavior and sportsmanship among all attendees is of utmost importance. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere that fosters citizenship, inclusiveness, positive recognition, equitable learning opportunities, and the achievement of educational and extracurricular goals. Plymouth Whitemarsh, in conjunction with the PIAA and Suburban One League, promotes good sportsmanship from student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation in supporting participants and officials positively.
Our Spectator Expectations are as follows:
- All K-8 students attending games, whether supporting home or visiting teams, must be accompanied by an adult.
- Spectators must comply with security checks at athletic events.
- Entry to ticketed games requires a purchased ticket or an approved PWHS/Gold Card pass, regardless of the time remaining in the game.
- Re-entry is not permitted once a spectator leaves a ticketed game.
- Report any suspicious individuals or activities immediately to Colonial School District staff and security officers.
- Backpacks and duffel bags are not allowed in the stadium or gyms.
- Balls (footballs, basketballs, etc.) are not allowed in the stadium or gyms.
- Fans must be seated in stands or bleachers during sporting events; loitering is not permitted.
- Plymouth Whitemarsh High School reserves the right to deny entry or remove anyone from athletic venues for failure to comply with these Spectator Expectations.
When you attend a game, please:
- Understand that attendance is a privilege to observe an athletic contest, not to berate players, coaches, or officials.
- Cheer for your team.
- Encourage sportsmanship by supporting and respecting all players, coaches, and officials.
- Demand that others treat players, coaches, officials, and other spectators with respect, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or ability.
- Support decisions made by coaches and officials.
- Appreciate the efforts of players, coaches, and officials.
- Be generous when winning and gracious when losing.
The following behaviors are grounds for immediate removal from a contest and future contests:
- Ridiculing or berating players, coaches, officials, or other spectators.
- Engaging in any unsportsmanlike conduct with officials, coaches, players, or parents. This includes inappropriate comments such as taunting, profanity, or gestures.
- Participating in any behavior that endangers the health or well-being of a participant.
- Humiliating, denigrating, or intimidating, in any way, any participant or attendee, including chants about underclassmen.
- Ridiculing any participant for making a mistake.
- Attempting to coach from the stands/sidelines or grandstand.
- Confronting coaches, officials, opposing fans, or participants in an antagonistic manner before, during, or after a contest.
- Throwing ANY object onto the court/field of play.
- Rushing the field/court in protest or celebration after a contest.
- Profane, racist or sexist comments, or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, or team representatives.
Prohibited items:
- Tobacco, electronic smoking products, alcohol, illegal, or other controlled substances are expressly prohibited, and law enforcement will be contacted if illegal activity is suspected.
- Attire should be appropriate and follow the school dress code per the PWHS Student Handbook. No body suits, coverings of face and head, disruptive costumes, and/or inappropriate clothing are allowed.
- Drones are prohibited on campus at any time, including during sporting contests and after-school events, unless expressly permitted by Board Policy or approved in advance by the Superintendent or designee.
- Per the PIAA, the presence and/or use of balloons, banners, laser pointers, noisemakers, pom-poms (by spectators), shakers, signs, sirens, strips of material, towels, whistles, and/or portable listening devices (without earphones) are prohibited.
Guidelines for seating:
- Students must be seated in the designated student area.
- Student seating is always on our bench side—either behind or directly across from the team.
- No movement of seating for the purpose of taunting the opponent is permitted.
Theme nights:
- Theme nights, such as white outs, black outs, and senior recognition, are permitted as long as the theme is appropriate for the specific game and has been approved by administration.
- Theme nights are intended to bring the school together in a positive and fun way.
Posters:
The PIAA does not permit signs or posters at sporting events.
PWHS Student Handbook:
All rules outlined in the PWHS Student Handbook are in full effect when students attend a contest or event as a participant or spectator. Violations of the PWHS Code of Conduct will be treated as if they occurred during the school day.
